FN’s Generalforsamling har med 164 stemmer mod én opfordret til større brug af verdenskort, der viser kontinenternes størrelse mere retvisende.På den udbredte Mercator-projektion ser Grønland næsten lige så stort ud som Afrika. I virkeligheden er Afrika omkring 14 gange større.Mercator-kortet blev skabt til sønavigation i 1500-tallet. Det er stadig nyttigt til bestemte formål, men det forstørrer områder langt fra ækvator og får blandt andet Afrika til at fremstå mindre.FN-resolutionen er ikke et forbud mod Mercator. Den er en opfordring til at vælge kort efter deres formål og til at forstå, at kort også former vores blik på verden.
* New HELCOM report on discharges observed during aerial surveillance * HELCOM’s latest annual report on discharges observed during aerial surveillance shows a continued long-term decline in detected oil spills across the Baltic Sea region.🛢️ In 2025, 45 oil spills were detected, compared with almost 500 per year in the early 2000s. The total estimated volume was around 9.5 m³, with the largest individual spill estimated at 5 m³.At the same time, aerial surveillance detected 144 spills in total, including discharges of substances other than mineral oil and unknown substances.
